‘The Hobbit’ Reviews: Evangeline Lilly & Smaug Make A Superior Sequel

The second installment of Peter Jackson’s ‘Hobbit’ trilogy, ‘The Desolation Of Smaug,’ finally hit theaters on Dec. 13. The nation’s top critics have weighed in, and the consensus seems to be that the addition of Evangeline Lilly and Orlando Bloom’s elves and Benedict Cumberbatch’s menacing dragon make ‘Smaug’ a much better film than its predecessor.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the middle child of Peter Jackson‘s Middle Earth trilogy, and it’s facing a lot of pressure since the first film, An Unexpected Journey, didn’t quite make waves in the moviegoing community. But the reviews are in for Smaug, and most seem to agree that the sequel has a lot more heart (and fire-breathing action!) than the first film. Read below to find out what the critics had to say!
